Salone Internazionale del Mobile is a design festival held in Milan every year, usually in April, in the FieraMilano complex in the Milan metropolitan area. This festival is a chance for renowned designers from world over to show off their designs. The event was held from April 22 to 27 this month and as usual produced some goodies.
Giorgio Armani’s unveiled a concept kitchen called Calyx this time which was produced by the Armani Casa wing in partnership with Dada.
Armani calls it Calyx the “disappearing kitchen†because it is actually possible to conceal the working area of the kitchen behind its wide doors, thus creating an extremely discreet environment. The kitchen is made from an ensemble of wood veneer, glass and woven metal. The interiors of the doors and the cladding of the whole interior vertical surface of the kitchen are created in plain silver colour techno fabric, covered with panels of glass. The stone top is in total black. Dark green is the choice for shelves and interior of the drawers.
Here is what Armani says about the design:

Is this Armani kitchen a bit ‘too modern’ for you? You could consider tacking a look at some retro kitchens then. Or if you are a fan of luxury design, check out section:Luxury Interior Design

Here is what Armani says about the design:
Calyx can be described as the “disappearing kitchen†in reference to its revolutionary design and the sophisticated practical solutions adopted. It is actually possible to conceal the working area of the kitchen behind its wide doors, thus creating an extremely discreet environment, of impeccable elegance and restraint. Calyx could also be defined as a perimeter kitchen, since it occupies the outer zone of a room, hiding the functional equipment behind impressive container doors. With a simple action, that opens or closes the doors, the kitchen can either be revealed as a practical area or concealed within the living or dining room. The doors play a fundamental role in this system: maintaining the purity of the design while providing an important storage facility, as they incorporate capacious shelving with safety rails to hold essential containers.Maybe it is because of the absence of any colours, but personally, I canot say I particlarly like this design. Disappearing? Maybe. Inspirational? Hardly. What do you guys think? Express your opinions in the comments.
